May 2011 - Many of the events from this point forward will be better documented when I get a copy of my Twitter accounts. Most of the conversations I was having were conducted over the phone, skype, and in person, not meant for public view... On the surface I was unemployed and spending most nights of the week (along with the occasional day) drinking at various dive bars around town with my friends and neighbors. I was also coming to a realization. My unemployment was being cut off soon, and I was going to have to tighten up on everything in order to afford the summer electric bills while living only on my nest egg.
Aside from everything else that was going on, I needed to take a step back and really think about everything. Fortunately I had plenty of drug connections. I was buying chron by the ounce and smoking a blunt and a few bowls a day. I picked up where I left off in my experimental days. My goal was to crack my head open and simply document everything that came out.
I would darken my room, light a candle, and practice yoga and meditation to the music that actually relaxed me...my music...hip-hop. I've been addicted to hip-hop for as long as I can even remember. I'm talking DJ Jazzy Jeff and the Fresh Prince long. I hadn't listened to a radio station in years, since I was always around musicians telling me their influences, etc, so I always have a general idea of who's who. Lupe Fiasco struck a particular chord with me. I couldn't even tell you how many times I listened to Lasers throughout the Spring...
June 2011 - Phoenix, AZ in the summer is almost unbearable some years. There are plenty of ways of to stay cool, but none of them are cheap. The government allows utility companies to adjust their costs to maximize profits from the masses based on meteorological conditions. My drug dealer never changed the price of an ounce based on how my day was, yet the electric company is allowed to charge more during the day in the summer (peak hours) and during the night in the winter in order to effectively price gouge a population already struggling through the impacts of the financial sector's abuse of the economic system.
I'm going to have to study some more before I can unfold those days...for now...
To Be Continued...
